“In this workshop C-DAC’s work in seismic imaging domain, HPC infrastructure built under National Supercomputing Mission (NSM), upcoming exascale infrastructure plan etc. will be showcased. Experts will talk on seismic imaging, inversion and various other topics followed by a panel discussion by eminent speakers from Oil Industry, Research Institutes, Academia and CDAC,” said E Mangesh, director general C-DAC.

“The objective of this workshop is to bring together experts from oil and gas companies, institutions, and academia to share their knowledge,” he added.

“Oil and gas are the key elements in energy generation and transportation. Governments and companies all over the globe, must first find out where they can locate reserves of oil and gas in land and marine environment. Seismic exploration surveys are carried out to collect data in search for oil and gas reservoirs. The recorded seismic data is then processed to create earth’s subsurface image. These images are essential for making decisions about the drilling locations of hydrocarbons. Reverse Time Migration known as RTM is currently one of the most effective methods to image the subsurface structures using seismic data. Presently, non-availability of indigenous RTM software and expensive licence fees have triggered the need for developing it within our country,” said Col A K Nath (Retd.) Executive Director, C-DAC Pune.
